The Answers to the Questions Everyone Wants to Know.....

*If you have any questions not answered here please send them to me. I am more than happy to answer questions to better inform others.*

Do you sleep in your wheelchair?
No, I do not sleep in my wheelchair. I transfer over to my bed and sleep like anyone else. A child once asked me If I can sleep sitting up. The answer is no. It is very uncomfortable and definately not good for your skin.

What can you feel?
Since my injury level is pretty low my feeling stops around my hips and fades throughout my thighs and legs. After my injury I regained some feeling and movement above the knees.

How do you take a Bath?
When I was first injured I only took showers using a shower chair and a hand held shower wand. A few years after my injury I realized how easy it would be to transfer into the bath tub and bathe. I simply lift myself with my arms and sit on the side of the tub. Then I grab the far side of the tub and lower myself into the bottom. When I am ready to get out of the tub I grab both sides of the tub again lifting myself onto the outside of the tub near my chair. I then lift myself over to my chair and voila I am finished! Since my skin is more sensitive than able bodied people I fold a towel over and lay it on the outside of the tub where I sit to get in and out. This is just a precaution I take to protect my skin from harm. I also have a padded bath mat that I bought from Walmart on the bottom of my tub for extra protection.

Did you give birth to your Son naturally?
I did in fact give Natural birth to my son. I delivered him vaginally with no meds. Since my injury level is lower I was able to push without any assistance.

Can you Stand Up or Walk at all?
No. I can not stand up on my own nor can I walk.

Will you always be paralyzed? Do the doctors say that there is a chance you could walk again?
The doctors do not believe that I will walk again on my own. I was diagnosed as incomplete. This means that I am not guaranteed any movement or feeling to come back below my injury. I have mentioned before that since my injury I have infact regained some feeling and movement below my injury. I am very religious and have my faith in GOD. I believe that I will walk again one day.

  2. A Shower Wheelchair is similar to a conventional wheelchair but differs in that it has been specially-designed to assist a patient in using the shower or the toilet. These are appropriate for persons who cannot stand for the time it takes to shower. This wheelchair is as a multi-purpose commode chair that assists the user to perform a number of functions tirelessly. Its main function is mobility, helping the individual move about. Secondly, the chair can act as a shower chair and thirdly, and equally important, it may function as a toilet seat. This ensures that the individual does not have to exert him- or herself to move from the chair in order to use the toilet.
